Jerry Dennis Easley
Defending the rights of railroaders under the Federal Railroad Safety Act
For the last few years, Jerry Easley has acted as lead council for OSHA complaints originating under the Federal Railroad Safety Act in our Texas office. Since taking over the enforcement of the FRSA from the FRA, OSHA has consistently sided with workers against railroads when the railroads try to intimidate or trump up discipline to terminate workers who report safety concerns or injuries. Jerry has achieved impressive results under the FRSA and continues to focus on this important area of railroad law holding railroads accountable for the way they treat their employees.
Jerry Easley was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. While studying at UT, Jerry gained invaluable experience, and an interest in the law while working for an emeritus professor of mechanical engineering, at a forensic engineering firm. Jerry participated in the analysis of many cases, including truck wrecks, car wrecks, products liability, and industrial equipment failures. Upon graduation, Jerry moved to Lafayette, Louisiana and worked as an oil-field engineer. The vast majority of his time in the oilfield was spent on drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, where he became familiar with the perils of working offshore.
In 2003, Jerry returned to Texas and enrolled at the University of Houston Law Center. He graduated with a juris doctorate (J.D.) in 2006. While a second year law student, Jerry began working for Rome, Arata & Baxley as a law clerk, where he began learning the intricacies of the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) - the law that protects injured railroad workers. Upon admission to the State Bar of Texas in November, 2006, Jerry continued his work at Rome, Arata & Baxley - now as an attorney. Jerry has represented railroad workers injured by fires, grade-crossing crashes, train crashes, carryall wrecks, switching accidents, derailments, slip/trip/falls, and assaults. Jerry has represented freight and passenger railroad workers from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and California. In addition to his railroad clients, Jerry has represented people injured in car wrecks, bus wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, and slip/falls.
Jerry Easley is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, and is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of Texas. Jerry has successfully prosecuted cases in Houston, Dallas, Galveston, Beaumont, Marshall, Fort Worth, El Paso and Texarkana and other parts of the United States.
